Coach Pitch is for 5, 6, and 7 year olds. PHILOSOPHY: Fun and development for the beginning ballplayer. In the Coach Pitch League each player will be included in the batting lineup and will play in the field each inning. This is an instructional league so the teams will be small to allow each child to learn through playing. COACHING: The Coach Pitch League can only succeed through the efforts of parent volunteers. Each team will have one manager and at least two coaches. Managers must be committed to attending games. Coaches should make a similar commitment. We will only have as many teams as there are coaches. SEASON: The season will begin in late April and end in June when the school year ends. Games are scheduled at 6:00 pm weekdays. There will be one game per week. TEAMS: You will be contacted by your child’s coach prior to the first game. All children will be placed on a team as long as we have coaches for each team. GAMES & PRACTICES: Your child’s coach will contact you before the team’s first game/practice and will provide you with a game schedule. On game nights, your child should be at the field by 6:00 pm (unless otherwise informed by your coach). The first half hour is the practice time and it is important that each child be involved. As the Coach Pitch League is not a babysitting services, parents or a designated person for your child should attend games. You are also encouraged to play ball at home with your child as well. Please be at the field promptly so the games can start on time. EQUIPTMENT: Parents should ensure that their child has a baseball glove with their name and phone number written on the glove. (Plastic, very small or large gloves will inhibit the child’s fun and development.) Long pants appropriate for athletic activity should be worn. NO SHORTS. Team shirts and hats will be provided and are to be worn to each game. On cool nights the team shirt should be worn over a sweatshirt, windbreaker, or long sleeve shirt. All other equipment will be provided, including bats, balls, baseball helmets, bases, etc. For safety reasons children are NOT to bring their own bats or balls. Gum, candy, and food should not be brought to games. Players should bring a filled water bottle with name and phone number written on the bottle. CANCELLATION: You will be notified by the coach if a practice or a game is cancelled due to inclement weather or poor field conditions; however, you are the final judge. At this level, a child is not penalized for missing a game. Please inform the coach if your child will miss or be late to a game. OTHER ISSUES: If your child has an allergy, a medical problem or physical or developmental challenges that would require special attention, please inform the league so we can let the coach know. The League may request your participation. Please note that children whose emotional maturity level negatively affects the enjoyment of the game for other children or the program quality may be removed from participation. www.needhamsummerbaseball.com click on Coach Pitch Link email: nsbcoachpitch@gmail.com | |
